How pure can soma be?

During a work project at the university last spring i learnt a lot about academic culture. For example academic speeches; we, children of the university, are supposed to be so educated and smart, that the language of the speech we are listening, or speaking, is a minor detail. "The thought continues though the language changes" was a phrase i heard often. "A proper academic speech should be held at least by two, preferably by three different languages." So we heard a lot speeches, in finnish, swedish, english, german, french, latin and russian. It's a fine way to boast with your language skills, but i'm still not sure if we fine academic people still understood everything that was said. Probably not, but who are we to change the tradition?

This text was supposed to be a short explanations about the title of our blog. Shortly the idea was to find a name, a word, that would mean something in both english and finnish. We came up with some examples right away. We also went through some slang-dictionaries to find a word that would mean something dirty on either, preferably both languages. Finally we ended up with Soma Pure. This seems to be a compromise between some options, mostly because it doesn't make too much sense on either of the languages.

Fin - Eng
Soma - beautiful, cute, lovely, pretty.
Pure - to bite, chew, munch, etc. the 1st personal pronoun of imperative case (please correct me with this one if i'm wrong!) Also means puree on on some occasions.
So a rough translation would be something like "cute one, bite!" or "lovely mash", with some grammar mistakes.

Eng - Fin
Soma - keho, ruumis, solun tumallinen osa
Pure - aito, hyveellinen, paljas, pelkkä
Aito keho, hyveellinen ruumis, paljas keho... Nämähän ovat ihan hyviä mielleyhtymiä, vaikkakaan niillä ei tunnu olevan mitään tekemistä blogin sisällön tai kirjoittajien kanssa. Joudutaan myös sorkkimaan sanajärjestystä jotta mielekkyys ilmestyy.
"Pelkkä solun tumallinen osa" pääsee nimenä jo friikkilistalle.

So there you have it. The story behind the name. Short story made long.

(It is also pretty evident who of the writers has most boring time at work.)
